GREEK ASYLUM SERVICE RECEIVES ADDITIONAL EMPLOYEES FROM EUROPE TO HELP CONDUCT MORE INTERVIEWS

At the moment, appointments for asylum interviews on the Greek mainland are very far away, sometimes as far as 2021. This is the case because the Greek Asylum Service does not have enough employees to conduct interviews sooner. EASO is an office of the European Union who is responsible for supporting Greece in its efforts to deal with asylum applications. Employees of EASO will now help the Greek Asylum Service to interview asylum seekers. This will hopefully help, so that asylum applicants don't have to wait for more than 3 years until they have their asylum interviews. As this is a pilot project, there will not be many new employees at the beginning, but hopefully more EASO staff will support the Greek Asylum Service by the beginning of next year. EASO told the Mobile Info Team that, in October and November, 8 new EASO employees will start working in the Regional Asylum Office of Thessaloniki and 12 in Athens.
