According to a news article from Deutsche Welle, in the next weeks the last refugees will be relocated from Italy and Greece. The refugees still waiting to be relocated had made their application before the Relocation Program officially ended in September 2017. The Relocation program was made to bring around 100.000 people from Italy and Greece to other European countries. In the end only around 33.000 have been effectively relocated. One of the reasons why not more people could be relocated is, that everybody who arrived after the 20th of March 2016 in Greece was not allowed to take part in the Relocation Program. At the moment there are discussions in the European Union to design a new Relocation Mechanism. Unfortunately these discussions are stuck, because countries like Hungary and Poland are strictly against a new Relocation Program. If a new Relocation Program might come, is completely unclear at the moment. The Mobile Info Team will keep you updated about this topic.
