STILL ALMOST NO RETURNS OF ASYLUM SEEKERS BACK TO GREECE

The Greek Dublin Unit has published a new statistic. It reveals that since the beginning of 2017, there were only 5 returns of asylum seekers who were illegally travelling on to another European country and applying for asylum there. Germany has made nearly 2,800 requests to Greece to take back asylum seekers that arrived illegally to Germany after applying for asylum in Greece. Greece has only accepted 90 of these requests. So far, only 4 transfers have been carried out. Also other European countries such as Belgium, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK were asking Greece to take back asylum seekers. Greece has so far only accepted 27 of these requests and just one transfer to Switzerland was carried out in 2017. Please keep in mind that this might change in the future and that in theory every non vulnerable asylum seeker who arrived after 15th of March 2017 should be send back to Greece if he illegally travels on to a different country.ι
