I'M REGISTERED IN A CAMP IN THE MAINLAND OF GREECE. CAN I JUST MOVE TO A DIFFERENT CAMP?

Many of you will have directly experienced the difficulty of registering in a Greek refugee camp on the mainland. There is a long wait for new arrivals to Greece to get registered in a camp. Once you are registered, you cannot choose a different camp to live in without the permission of the Ministry of Migration Policy. It is the Ministry which is responsible for registering all asylum seekers in the camps, not the organisation managing your camp (like for example IOM or DRC). If you leave the camp you are registered in without permission, to try and transfer to a different camp, the Ministry will notice you are absent and de-register you from your camp and will usually refuse to register you in the new camp as well. You will be stuck without any camp. This is because the Ministry is preventing asylum seekers from changing camps. If you want to move to a different camp, you must ask the camp authorities to make a formal request to the ministry. However, you usually need a very good reason to be allowed to move to a different camp and even then it might be very challenging to get the permission to do so.
